Pay for the cover you actually need.

Compare 2027 basic premiums, then build supplementary cover around your health priorities—not just the monthly price.

Start with three questions

01Where do you live, and who needs cover?

02Which deductible and treatment model suit you?

03Do you need dental, hospital or alternative-medicine cover?

UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU COMPARE

The details that change your decision.

Start with the essentials, explore the trade-offs, then compare written terms for your situation.

Health and everyday wellbeing

Two layers, two different decisions

Basic insurance covers statutory benefits; the treatment model controls your first point of contact. Supplementary insurance is a separate contract for selected additional benefits. You can compare these layers separately and ask whether keeping them with different insurers suits you. A low basic premium does not tell you whether a supplementary package meets your needs.

Hospital cover: look past the room

Compare general, semi-private, private and flexible arrangements by hospital and doctor access, recognised establishments, prior approval and your own contribution. A flexible policy may require you to choose the ward at admission and pay a share of upgraded care. Ask for a worked example, including any annual maximum on your contribution.

Dental and orthodontics: check early

For each offer, compare reimbursement percentage, annual ceiling, eligible treatments, age rules and any dental examination or questionnaire. Do not assume braces already recommended will be accepted. A large advertised ceiling may still come with a percentage contribution, restrictions or waiting period. Obtain written terms before committing to treatment.

Outpatient benefits you will actually use

Check alternative medicine by recognised therapist and treatment, glasses by reimbursement frequency, and prevention or fitness by approved provider. For travel, separate emergency treatment from transport and repatriation. For maternity, review benefit-specific waiting periods and hospital access. A bundle should be assessed against your likely use, not its number of features.

Switch safely and keep cash available

Supplementary insurers may assess health, exclude benefits or refuse an application. Wait for written acceptance, with its effective date and reservations, before cancelling existing cover. For basic insurance, compare the annual premium together with deductible and other out-of-pocket costs. Keep a reserve that allows you to pay a medical bill when it arrives.

Questions specific to this service

Does a new supplementary policy cover existing problems?

Only the written acceptance and policy establish what is covered. Declare requested information accurately and check every reservation.

Can accident cover be removed from basic insurance?

If you work at least eight hours per week for the same Swiss employer, you generally have non-occupational accident cover under the accident-insurance scheme. Verify your cover before requesting suspension; reassess it when employment changes.

WHAT MATTERS

A useful comparison looks deeper.

Basic insurance benefits are set by law. Compare the premium and access rules.

Supplementary benefits, exclusions and acceptance depend on the insurer. Obtain written acceptance before cancelling existing cover.

For an ordinary year-end basic switch, the cancellation must reach the insurer by 30 November. Check your situation and the contractual deadlines for supplementary cover.
