Protect the people who rely on your income.

Assess the gap between your household’s expenses and existing death, disability or sickness benefits.

Start with three questions

01Who depends on your income?

02What does your employer already cover?

03How long could your household manage without your salary?

UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU COMPARE

The details that change your decision.

Start with the essentials, explore the trade-offs, then compare written terms for your situation.

Calculate the gap before choosing a sum

List essential monthly spending, mortgage debt, dependants and existing employer or pension benefits. Death cover supports beneficiaries after a death; income protection supports the insured person during qualifying incapacity. Choose amounts from the financial gap and duration of need, rather than an attractive package price.

Waiting time, definition and payment period

Compare how incapacity is defined, the minimum degree required, medical evidence, waiting period and maximum benefit duration. Distinguish a daily allowance from a disability pension and a lump sum. Ask how partial return to work, recurrence, pre-existing conditions and a change of profession affect payment.

Separate risk cover from savings

A term life policy focuses on a risk benefit; a savings policy combines several functions. Compare level versus decreasing death capital, beneficiary arrangements and exclusions. Premium waiver protects qualifying future premiums, not necessarily your living costs. Review protection when your family, borrowing or employment changes.

Questions specific to this service

Should I insure illness and accident in the same way?

Check existing benefits separately: employer and pension arrangements can differ for illness and accident. Insure the remaining gap.

WHAT MATTERS

A useful comparison looks deeper.

Start with employer and social-insurance benefits to avoid overlapping cover.

Compare insured amounts, waiting periods, duration, exclusions and medical underwriting.

Align protection with mortgages, children’s needs and the length of your financial obligations.

A shared home and shared expenses do not establish identical rights to married spouses. For unmarried couples, the first useful protection exercise is to identify who receives what after a death, rather than buying a policy with an attractive premium.

Savings and protection: compare the two jobs before combining them

A policy combining savings and risk cover performs two different jobs. Its suitability depends on whether each job meets your needs, and whether the combined payment commitment remains manageable through changes in income.
