Keep your pension working through a life change.

Locate and organise pension assets after a job change, career break or departure from Switzerland.

Start with three questions

01Are you changing jobs or leaving Switzerland?

02Where are your pension assets held?

03When will you need the money?

UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU COMPARE

The details that change your decision.

Start with the essentials, explore the trade-offs, then compare written terms for your situation.

Preserve pension assets between jobs

When you leave a pension fund, your departure benefit normally moves to the next pension fund. If no new fund is available, organise a vested-benefits solution and retain the transfer confirmation. Check old employment records for forgotten assets. A vested-benefits balance is retirement money, not a freely available everyday savings account.

Cash account or invested solution

Compare interest, fund allocation, currency exposure and every administration or investment fee. An invested solution can fall in value, particularly over a short horizon. Match the strategy to when the money may need to move to a new fund or be paid out. Check beneficiary rules and whether death or disability protection is included at all.

Leaving Switzerland does not always unlock everything

For an EU/EFTA move with compulsory old-age, death and disability insurance in the destination country, mandatory LPP assets generally cannot be paid in cash; the extra-mandatory part is assessed separately. Destination-specific exceptions exist. Obtain confirmation from the competent institution and review the tax treatment in Switzerland and your new country before requesting payment.

Questions specific to this service

Does vested-benefits saving replace life cover?

Not automatically. Check which risk benefits survive the employment change and the terms of the selected solution.

WHAT MATTERS

A useful comparison looks deeper.

A new employer’s pension fund may require transfer of vested benefits.

Cash withdrawals depend on the reason, destination and mandatory portion. Leaving for the EU/EFTA can restrict withdrawal.

Compare fees, investment risk, withdrawal taxation and the timing of any transfers.
